Linksys DMA 2100/2200 Media Center Extenders Shipping Now

Illustration for article titled Linksys DMA 2100/2200 Media Center Extenders Shipping Now

Those Media Center Extenders we told you about back in September (the ones that support DivX, XviD and WMV HD) are finally shipping now. Dell has both the Linksys DMA 2100 and 2200s up for sale, but a reader tells us that his 2100 doesn't actually work with DivX or XviD, and the manual makes no mention of this. It could be user error on his part. Anyone have any experience with it?

Update: The 2200 looks like it's not shipping quite yet (1-2 weeks), but the 2100 is.

Update 2: Turns out the Linksys systems only support XviD and not DivX. [2100 via 2200]

Broken Machine

Wow. Looks like an Xbox with built in wifi and some front panel buttons.

Seriously, can we just admit that wireless does not work well for streaming good quality video? My feeling with included wifi is it is fine unless it has a visible cost difference with a competing product. Ideally, I'd like these device manufacturers to get together and make a wired/wireless chipset that when plugged in, uses the included wireless as an acess point, thereby increasing your wifi range - adds a benefit to those of us that took the effort to run the wires, huh?
