Does this sky look odd to you? Cloud Appreciation Society head Gavin Pretor-Pinney thinks so; he thinks these are a whole new type of clouds - "Asperatus Clouds" - and he's trying to get them internationally classified as such.
Pretor-Pinny is working with the British Royal Meteorological Society to have these clouds officially classified as a new cloud type by the World Meteorological Organization, explaining that "They don't seem to fit very easily into the existing classifications." The RMS is working on gathering data about the clouds before going any further, according to a spokesman for the organization: "We have still got some investigation to do...We are a few months away from taking anything to the WMO."
