Obviously, yes, you can still stream seasons one and two of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power on Prime Video, and with season three arriving in November, starting your rewatch now isn’t a bad idea. But there’s exciting news on the horizon other than the new episodes: physical releases for the first two installments, perfect for displaying next to all your other Middle-earth media.
Also, it’s never a bad idea to have discs you can hold in your hands; in the event of some kind of Mount Doom-style cataclysm that sabotages your internet service, you will still be able to see Charlie Vickers lay out some masterfully evil smirking as he pretends to be anyone other than Sauron himself.
Journey back to the Second Age via the four-disc 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD sets starting November 3; both include “behind the scenes bonus content,” the specifics of which are not detailed in the Amazon MGM Studios and Alliance Home Entertainment press release. You can also pick up limited edition 4K UHD SteelBooks for each season, arriving December 1 with special packaging and “collectible art cards.”
Here’s the official description of the show, which has been a ratings hit for Prime Video, presumably making all involved feel better about its famously enormous budget: “Set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, this epic drama follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil in Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf-capital Lindon; from the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map—these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.”
The cast for seasons one and two includes, but is not limited to, Robert Aramayo as Elrond, Owain Arthur as Prince Durin IV, Morfydd Clark as Galadriel, Ismael Cruz Córdova as Arondir, Charles Edwards as Celebrimbor, Charlie Vickers as Halbrand/Annatar/Sauron, Daniel Weyman as the Stranger (aka Gandalf), Markella Kavenagh as Nori, Cynthia Addai-Robinson as Queen Regent Míriel, and Benjamin Walker as High King Gil-Galad.
