Mac Notebooks Suffering from Stretch Marks, Swollen Batteries?

Perhaps this is a sign that we're overdue for some new Mac portables. A very caring MacBook owner recently found unsightly stretch marks along his Mac's derriere, despite pampering it like it was his first-born. Earlier we heard reports of swollen batteries on MacBook Pros—one of them even went up in flames. Sounds like some of them are starting to fall apart. Anyone out there experiencing similar troubles?

One of the pics looks like the computer was abused. There is a bit sliver taken off of the top case. That cannot happen under normal usage. I have both a white and black macbook and neither are showing signs of this happening after nearly a year of ownership (both were purchased in february and may of 2006 respectively)

The discoloration is small potatoes, and is easily fixed under warranty. The bum magsafe is easily replaced under warranty too. Thankfully it's not a common issue.
