Since the Zune’s launch in 2006, we’ve been waiting and waiting for the Redmond gods to grant Mac users access to the Zune. Now, Microsoft exec Oded Ran has tweeted that the holy day may soon be upon us. Updated:

According to Ran’s tweet, which has been removed, the real impetus behind this news is Windows Phone 7 support. As it turns out, Zune software is required for syncing with any WP7 device. Does Microsoft just want as many potential customers as possible for their upcoming WP7 release in November, or is this them keeping their enemies close?

Either way, we’re happy to finally have them.

Update: Confirmation from Microsoft! Not a lot of detail, but the company has issued a statement assuring us that you’ll be able to sync “select content” from your WP7 device with your Mac before the end of the year:

Later in 2010 Microsoft will make a public beta available of a tool that allows Windows Phone 7 to sync select content with Mac computers.
