According to Reuters, a company called Yudu has launched a service that gives content creators a way around the 30% cut Apple has been demanding for selling subscriptions through iOS. The service lets users download issues to their iPad or iPhone even when the purchase is made direction from the publisher.
Yudu says that it's been cleared by Apple as "compliant with its terms and conditions," but it's hard to imagine Cupertino letting this stand for very long. It didn't institute the 30% model—lucrative both for the cash and the subscriber data that comes with it—just to sit by and let publishers daintily sidestep it. [Reuters]
