The latest curveball to come swerving out of Michael Bay’s alien Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle reboot is the revelation that the title will be simply Ninja Turtles. (“Paramount marketing changed the name,” said the producer.)

So if this movie’s title is going to ride on a single adjective, Bay and company would be wise to take some cues from Deviant Artist Marv’s TMNT costume redesigns. They’re heavy on the shinobi, low on the extraterrestrial, and absolutely charming.

The four Turtles.

Splinter, Casey Jones, and April.

Shredder, flanked by two Foot Clan members.

Leatherhead, Karai, and Usagi Yojimbo.

And as a bonus, Usagi, Gennosuke, and Zato-Ino from Usagi Yojimbo.

Semi-related: The most recent live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, from 2011.
