Incoming Secretary of Defense, Leon Panetta, said that the next Pearl Harbor could be a cyber-attack. Since our government is obviously inept when it comes to cybersecurity, we should probably stick to what we're good at: launching missiles.
The idea of a tactical EMP that can disable an enemy's electronic systems without harming personnel has been around at least since the first Starcraft, but now Raytheon thinks it can make it into reality. This purveyor of fine missile technology wants to replace explosive warheads in pre-existing missiles with powerful, microwave-emitting warheads that can sense and cripple any electricity-dependent system. Which, in this day and age, represents just about everything on the battlefield, short of poop shovels. [Wired, Image from Wikipedia]
