We’re definitely jazzed about the prospect of a Blue Beetle TV series, but history gives reason to tamp down our optimism for a second-tier DC hero show. In 2006, this rad Plastic Man TV pilot was rejected by Cartoon Network.

This unaired 10-minute pilot — which features the voices of Tom “SpongeBob” Kenny and Dave “Joey from Full House” Coulier as Archie the cop — was commissioned by Warner Brothers and Cartoon Network. Despite the extremely fun Ren and Stimpy-style surrealism of the pilot, Cartoon Network didn’t pick up the series. Kenny went on to voice Plastic Man on Batman: The Brave and The Bold, and this pilot was eventually bundled with 2009’s Plastic Man: The Complete Collection, which collected the rubbery hero’s late 70s/early 80s Saturday morning cartoon run.
