According to researchers from IHS Screen Digest, 3.4 billion movies will be streamed online this year, more than double the 1.4 billion in 2011. And those are just the legal ones. Let's not forget the personal computer ushered in the paperless office too.
And now we use more paper than ever.
I'm not terribly surprised to hear streaming will overtake physical media, but it's a bell curve of sorts. There will always be people who continue to use the old technology. It may become statistically insignificant, but it'll probably always be around in some form.
