This looks clever: MP3Tunes’s MP3Beamer is a music management program that does more than make party play lists—it streams songs to any bit of tech you have that can receive them (meaning your laptop over Wi-Fi or whatever, and eventually cellphones). The software runs $69, which is somewhat reasonable when you consider it’s a full-blown audio server package, and not just for making sure you can have your Minogue fix anywhere in the world. And never fear, iPod users—there’s a sync program that should let you copy files to your player via iTunes, even though they’ll live on another box (something that iTunes sometimes has trouble with).
But MP3Tunes want to go one better, and so are offering the MP3beamer box to compliment their fancy software. The box is little more than a reasonably priced ($399) PC with the ability to connect to damn near any hardware in the world, including video players/recorders. Confusingly, both the Linspire Linux-based music streaming software and the Linux-running PC with the software installed share the MP3beamer name.
