Some cracks are starting to appear in Nokia’s claim that it sold 400,000 of its N-Gage gamephone in its first two weeks of release. Arcadia Research did its own detective work and estimates that in its first week on sale in the US, Nokia managed to sell fewer than 5,000 of these. And last week a poll of British retailers found that only 500 were sold there in that same time period. Nokia would neither confirm nor deny these figures, but just to keep things in perspective, Nintendo sold 540,000 units of its Game Boy Advance in the first week it was available in the US.
