Despite the fact that the sequel wasn’t nearly as good as the original, I am all over the idea of a Red TV series. Action-comedies should be everywhere, all the time.
The 2010 movie starred Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, and John Malkovich as older, retired spies suddenly thrust back into the life. Where, it turns out, experience beats youth. It was based on Warren Ellis and Cully Hamner’s limited-run comic book with the same name.
The show comes from the same people behind the movies, with the writers of the movies, Jon Hoeber and Erich Hoeber, also writing the show. Mostly, the series will be based on the concept of the films. the REDs (Retired Extremely Dangerous), but not be the same world as the films.
According to Deadline, Red the series will be set in — say it with me now — “a more grounded and authentic world.” It’s going to spend a lot more time showing characters’ struggles with civilian life. Life’s so hard when you are can kill anyone you want and make it look like an accident, but really shouldn’t.
