Holt McCallany (Lights Out) has been tapped to play a former prize fighter and gym owner in Warrior, a show that mixes martial arts and magic in the hunt for an international crime lord. This show’s description does not really explain the “magic” part, but we have some guesses.

McCallany will play Andriv Vorobin — which, not to make wild guesses, but the name of his character and his name don’t exactly line up — an MMA expert and gym owner. The show is centered on Natalie Martinez (Under the Dome) as Kai Forrester, who works undercover to bring down a crime lord. It’sreported that she’ll get “physical and spiritual guidance” from the “mysterious” Vorobin.

None of this really explains where the magic fits in. The description of the project just says that it’s “set in a grounded, contemporary multicultural and sometimes magical milieu.” So I’m betting that Vorobin’s spiritual guidance is based in a spirit world that’s real. Psychic? Ghost? Actual wizard? Crime lord she’s after is really Satan? And Vorobin’s an angel? Let’s go with all of the above until we know for sure.
