A few new images have been released of the upcoming Bionicle theme and I will share them with you. However, while all of this very pretty and great if you look at it from a comic book or animation standpoint, I can't help but think, is this really Lego?
Technically, it is Lego. They utilize the same methods to press the elements in plastic and it is all made in the same factories from the same stuff by the same people. The issue I have with it is that the majority of the elements can't be locked together in traditional fashion with what we have understood as the Lego System.
It's more like Technic (which I have no issues with) in the way the elements interlock and that makes perfect sense, because the original Bionicle theme and its successor, Hero Factory, were both off-shoots of Technic, utilizing many of the same elements that are featured in that line. With this reboot of Bionicle, looking at the characters, I can see very few pieces that I am familiar with. It leaves me with the weird feeling that many of these elements, however cool looking, have zero use when I'm sifting through a pile of brick trying to create something of my own.
I'm sure the kids love it, though. I have just one message for them. Get off my lawn.
