The next-generation MacBook Pro 2012 may be just around the corner: multiple Apple resellers are reporting some of the current models as out of stock, including J&R and Best Buy. In fact, the latter is not accepting online orders at this point.
If you want to get one, you will have to find it in the stores—if available. According to Apple Insider, "40 and 60 percent" of Best Buy shops in Chicago and Austin are reporting "stock outs" on the 15-inch 2.4GHz MacBook Pro.
Traditionally, the retail channel dries up as Apple shuts down production. This cleans the distribution channels out of units as they get ready to introduce fresh models into the market.
There aren't many details on the incoming MacBook Pro 2012, but these are our crystal ball predictions. Basically, it's reasonable to expect them to be much faster—using Core i7 Ivy Bridge processors—and thinner than the current models, much like the MacBook Air. [AI]
