Today Marvel released a photo of Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Odin (Anthony Hopkins), and Loki (Tom Hiddleston) looking like a trio of totally butch dudes in Asgard's halls. UPDATE: You'll also be seeing both these bros and Captain America in 3-D.
Here's what I imagine they're saying:
Odin: Hey sons, how about we drink some mead with Baldur, go pick up some Valkyries, toss Gungnir around for a while, and go beat the crap out of some frost giants just for laughs. Thor, bring Mjolnir. Loki, you can borrow Thrudstok.
Loki: My dad was a frost giant.
Thor: Sucks to be you.
Furthermore, both Thor and Captain America will be released in chichi 3-D. Both movies will be filmed in 2-D, but their special effects will be created with 3-D in mind, says Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige:
I'd say there's not a great feeling out there for conversion based on some of the films that may have succeeded financially but had their artistry come under fire [...] In being able to think in 3-D from the start — and having every bit of our special effects rendered in true 3-D — we have the opportunity to do it right [...] When you're working with a director like Ken Branagh or Joe Johnston, they're not going to settle for less than perfect image. They're not going to settle for something that isn't up to the artistry of everything else they've done on the film [...] They're not going to put on some overlay in the last 10 to 12 weeks of post-production for a fiscal reason.
Thor hits theaters on May 6, 2011; Captain America: The First Avenger will be released July 22, 2011.
