Tim Burton’s latest movie, Frankenweenie, debuted first as a live action short 1984. It was Burton’s very last project at Disney Studios. Once the short was finished, the director was promptly fired by the Mouse House for wasting funds on a short that was deemed entirely too creepy for the kiddies. Burton went on to become an epically successful movie-maker, and now he’s back at Disney — turning the very short that got him canned into a black-and-white stop-motion feature film about a dead dog and his boy owner. The skull head cherry on top? This trailer actually looks pretty cute and funny.

Frankenweenie hits theaters on October 5, 2012.
