NFC Coming to iPhone Thanks to a New Qualcomm Chip, Says New Rumor

More to-ing and fro-ing on the subject of an upcoming iPhone having NFC: the NY Times spoke to two people who claim to have knowledge that it’ll support NFC via a new Qualcomm chip. Unfortunately, they couldn’t confirm if it’ll be included in the iPhone 5, or the next one—though one of them did say that the payments would be made through iTunes, which we’d heard previously would be a feature added to 2012’s iPhone.

Likewise, it’s only fair that the manufacturers making Windows Phone 7 handsets should be exploring NFC—could it be Nokia, who’d previously stated they planned to add NFC to all of its phones in 2011? [NY Times]
