Nintendo DS Preorders at 2 Million

Nintendo had planned to have a million DS handhelds on, uh, hand for their December launch but now they’re pulling out all the stops to double that amount due to unexpectedly high pre-orders for the gaming device. They’ve brought a third factory online, in fact, to try to ramp up production over the next couple of weeks to have enough to sell. This is even more important in Japan than here, where just a short 10 days after launch, Sony will be following with their PSP handheld (the US PSP launch isn’t until next year).

Personally, I’m sort of lukewarm on the DS. When I played it, it seemed like there was a lot of potential for fun gameplay in the device, but the majority of the release games were only so-so. Except Warioware, of course. There is no greater purpose for a touch-screen than to more accurately simulate pulling a booger.
