Nintendo Not Going to Have Enough Wiis This Holiday Season

Illustration for article titled Nintendo Not Going to Have Enough Wiis This Holiday Season

Nintendo knows that the best way to keep a product hyped up is to make sure said product is difficult to get. If there's a shortage, that must mean that lots of people want them, and you'd better buy yours before someone else beats you to it! Right? While Nintendo has had plenty of time to ramp up production of the Wii, and with Japanese sales lagging, they're still saying there's gonna be a shortage here in the States this holiday season, going back on their word from a couple weeks ago.

Reggie from Nintendo of America has this to say about the upcoming shopping maelstrom:

We're working very hard to make sure that consumers are satisfied this holiday, but I can't guarantee that we're going to meet demand. As a matter of fact, I can tell you on the record that we won't.

Pretty annoying for parents looking to buy a Wii for their kids this holiday, but if you start looking for one now it shouldn't be impossible to find one. [Mercury News via Kotaku]

Bought mine last week at target. Called them on a lark. Paid 250 beans. Yeah, the games are not all quite there, but TigerWoods Tour 08 is faboo, Brunswick bowling beats the pants off of Wii Sports Bowling, I still dig Wii tennis even after playing three sets every night, Rockstar's table tennis is on the way, as is the new StarWars gameroo. I'm waiting for Something like "John McEnroe's Grand Slam Tennis", or something like that. Those Mii things, with their absurdly huge heads, are teh suxx. No, it's not great graphics by contemporary standards (my last console was an Atari 2600, though, so it's definetly a modest improvement over 1977 technology). I like the controller model, though. If I want great graphics and deeper gameplay, that's what my PC is for.
