Nokia’s Stephen Elop (nee Microsoft’s Stephen Elop) has been very careful not to say “Windows Phone 7″, and just “Windows Phone” when he’s talking about the deal between the two companies to manufacture smartphones on the platform. Why? Because Microsoft is going to call their next major update, code-named Mango, something that’s not Windows Phone 7. Guesses are that it’s Windows Phone 7.5.
Nonetheless, the update won’t be finished until some time around October, meaning Nokia won’t—even if they work very fast—get their phones running Windows Phone to market until late 2011, or early 2012 at the earliest. [Guardian via Techradar]
