I sort of understand why this simple ‘OnTime’ digital clock is $200. It operates on only power-over-Ethernet and syncs up with any SNTP (Simple Network Time Protocol) server it can find on the network. And it’s designed to be seen from over 150 feet away, so we’re talking about something that would live in a data center, not your house.
But why hasn’t someone made one for our houses? Regular Ethernet has some power over it—surely it’s enough to drive a simple clock and some SNTP firmware. I send this idea blindly to the internet, like a A.O. Spare sigil, and await its return. I will still expect the usual 15 percent conceptual licensing fee.
