It’s a wedding! At least, I hope it’s one. Given Orphan Black’s tendency to give us a glimmer of hope, only to later snatch it away, one can never be too careful.
Orphan Black’s Twitter account shared a bit of footage from the show’s upcoming final season, which they say was pulled from a BBC America commercial. In the promo, we see Cosima and Delphine, respectively clad in a tuxedo and white dress, sharing a romantic kiss. Does this mean wedding bells are finally ringing for one of Orphan Black’s most complicated couples? Let’s hope so!
Cosima and Delphine’s relationship has definitely had its ups and downs, and that’s putting it mildly. Delphine was originally a spy sent by Aldous Leekie from the Dyad Institute (a front for the series’ big bad, Neolution) to get close to Cosima and the other clones. However, as the pair fell in love, Delphine’s allegiances switched and she sought to help Cosima and her sestra. However, they later broke up after Delphine was promoted to take Leekie’s position, and wanted to appear neutral about the clones.
Season three ended on a major cliffhanger, with Delphine getting shot and presumed dead, after refusing to fully join the Neolutionists’ cause. It wasn’t until near the end of season four that we learned Delphine was still alive, and she and Cosima were finally reunited— albeit briefly, with Cosima revealing that she stole some of the gene therapy samples that could finally cure her of her terminal illness. It’s still unclear what Delphine was doing at the Neolutionists’ stronghold, whether she was being held there against her will or helping them, but if Cosima and Delphine are getting married... I’m hoping it’s the former.
Orphan Black returns with its fifth and final season June 10.
