Our Galaxy’s Black Hole Is Getting Angry

The black hole at the center of our galaxy isn’t happy. In fact, it’s spitting out its biggest X-ray flares ever, which are a hundred times more powerful than anything it’s ever produced before.

It’s not clear why it eject X-rays like this, but it sure looks angry when it does—just like in this image, which was captured by NASA’s Chandra X-Ray Observatory. [The Astrophysical Journal via New Scientist]
