Panasonic BMET100 Iris Recognition

Panasonic’s BMET100 Iris Recognition system provides an extra layer of sci-fi security on your PC, for those times when passwords and locked doors just aren’t enough. The BMET100 can also function as a standard VGA-quality webcam for video conferencing and the like.

Of course, a piece of security hardware is useless without software to lock your PC down, so Panasonic has provided Private ID™ and Secure Suite™ software for single PC use, as well as compatibility with Iridian’s KnoWho Server architecture.

The instructions for use seem a bit dodgy, though: “Simply present your iris 19″ to 21″ from camera for PC logon and application access.” At that distance, can a VGA-quality camera reliably differentiate from an iris and a picture of an iris? And if it is zoomed in, how do you know where to put your head?
