Panasonic says it’s working on a way to record HDTV images on SD cards, following the trail it has already blazed with its P2 solid-state memory cards for its DVCPRO HD line of professional-level camcorders. Using the SD memory cards, Panasonic plans to develop small solid-state HDTV camcorders for consumers. The company says the 1080i or 720p video recorded on the cards will be compressed with the H.264 MPEG-4 codec with Dolby Digital audio.

No word on when we might see these consumer-level solid-state HDTV camcorders here in the “reality-based world.”
