Pantech & Curitel have released the PH-S6500, another Korean phone that claims to be the first with a 6-axis movement sensor (Samsung’s SCH-S310 makes the same claim). But as P&C’s surprisingly frank press releases claim, the “Heart of the matter, however, appears to be a question of how the technology has been utilized, rather than who has come first.” Instead of using the motion sensors to replace the keypad, as the Samsung phone somewhat impractically suggests, the PH-S6500 uses the 3D sensor as an interface to play games, as well as use the phone as a type of pedometer, measuring the stride of its owner and estimating calories burned.

An interesting phone—too bad it’s Korea-only (and that it’s so ugly).
Update: The Register mulls reports that P&C may be working with Intel to develop a new smartphone (or smartphones).
