No country likes flexing its numbers in intimidatingly perfect choreographed coordination more than China. So to celebrate the 70th anniversary of WWII ending in Asia, China held a striking military parade to show off their military might, marching down drones and missiles and aircraft and soldiers and all kinds of war machines as some way to sternly encourage peace. And probably to alert the world that if WWIII went down, that they’re more than ready.

The visuals are truly spectacular, in a living embodiment of old propaganda posters sort of way. Only if those propaganda posters multiplied itself in the copy machine that can print to infinity. The visuals are also totally jarring, in a tasteless scrubbing of history sort of way. I mean, the parade marched right down Tiananmen Square as if nothing ever happened there.

I’m trying to figure out where exactly “neon blue” is useful camouflage. Tropical beaches? Like...in the water?
