Pop-up orb city could house 10,000 people in six months

Is the future of housing round? The Elkinoid Project envisions a future where housing shortages are solved with sustainable, off-the-grid towns made up of thousands of orb-shaped houses. And each structure would take less than a week to build.

The Elkinoid Project is looking to design “future-proof” housing that can be easily assembled on site by unskilled individuals. The hope is that families could build their own houses and then help their neighbors build their houses. Each pod would house a family of three or four and last for around 100 years, after which the components would be recyclable.

Currently, the hypothetical houses come in white clay and the more attractive copper shingles.
