iPod, shmipod. How about vinyl on the go: Numark’s PT01 Portable Turntable runs on D batteries, features a line out (no phono pre needed), and while it’s belt-driven, works for light scratching thanks to an included felt slipmat. It’s small and light enough to throw a couple in a suitcase, and at $99, you can buy two for the price of a Nano. But can it work in the desert? DJ Eldorado did his gear review at Burning Man to find out. Verdict: dust and heat were no match for this micro turntable. -P. Kirn
