For those concerned about the future direction of SyFy, here’s a story you might want to pretend doesn’t exist. The network has a new man in (semi-)charge of original programming, and he’s the man who gave the world Smallville.

Andrew Plotkin, who was formerly an executive at Warner Bros. Television, has been chosen to replace the outgoing Tony Optican as the network’s Senior VP of Original Programming. In his time at WB, he developed Smallville, FX’s Nip/Tuck and CBS’ procedurals Cold Case and Without A Trace, which at least demonstrates his versitility. He’ll answer to Mark Stein, SyFy’s Executive VP of Original Programming, and the man who greenlit such shows as Battlestar Galactica and Eureka.
