Nate "nnenn" Nielson was a father, husband, artist, and teacher. He also popularized the "Vic Viper" LEGO spaceships that took the AFOL community by storm. He died in an accident early this month. A few of my favorite nnenn designs:

It's really hard to pick favorites of nnenn's work. It was all so imaginative and clever. Take a few minutes today to browse his Flickr stream. Nielson had such a knack for LEGO spaceships.

what in the watercress, these are great.

first, RIP nnenn.

second, by my opening statement, clearly i'm not a lego person. i was thoroughly impressed by these creations. can someone well-versed in lego-dom tell me how he could create such things? i mean, does he have custom blocks? how does he get these pieces? i know that lego will have custom sets for specific things, so does he take pieces from these different sets?
