From Dusk till Dawn and Sin City director Robert Rodriguez is no stranger to children’s adventure movies, having created the Spy Kids franchise. Now, though, he’s delving into an existing children’s series, bringing the Hanna-Barbera cartoon Jonny Quest to the big screen.
The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Rodriguez is onboard to direct an adaptation of Jonny Quest. He’ll also be co-rewriting the movie’s script, which was originally written by Dan Mazeau, along with Shrek and Pirates of the Caribbean scribe Terry Rossio.
Rodriguez’s family films have been very hit and miss, but we’re curious to see what he does with Jonny Quest. Certainly we’ve seen the cartoon endlessly parodied on The Venture Bros., but we expect that Rodriguez will do something very different with the material and, at the very least, he’ll probably cook up some interesting visual sequences.
