Trying to get some details on the actual ship date of the Apple TV, I played the dumb consumer and went to the Soho Apple Store, where I asked a couple of different employees about “that new Apple TiVo.” After each person politely explained to me that it wasn’t “a TiVo,” I asked them when I could buy one.

“Well, it ships on Feb. 27th.”
“So I can buy one here that morning?”
“Yeah, if we get it then.”
So it’s not exactly a rock solid drop date, but that pretty much nails Apple TV to the very end of February or very beginning of March. No promotion or anything in the store, but I think it’s because for the time being it’s not exactly a super-exciting product. People would probably trip balls for it if it really was an “Apple TiVo,” though.
