We were pretty positive this allegedly leaked iPhone 5 chip was not actually an NFC chip. We weren’t sure what it actually was. Now, MacRumors is claiming that, according to RepairLabs, it’s just a boring earpiece speaker.

The hope was that the new iPhone would have an NFC chip that would allow iOS 6’s PassBook to work like a mobile wallet. But the latest rumors say that’s not going to happen. All of these iPhone 5 questions and more will be answered at next week’s iPhone 5 unveiling. Other rumors suggest the rebooted phone may have a fresh two-tone unibody design, a smaller, redesigned dock connector, 4G LTE and a larger 4-inch display using Sharp’s IGZO technology.
