Seeking to prove Edwin Starr wrong, Samuel L. Jackson and his Afro Samurai co-creator Eric Calderon think that war might be good for a few things after all with their new comic series, Cold Space. "Huh!" indeed.
The new series was co-created by actor Jackson and Calderon, and stars a main character who looks very like Jackson himself... Perhaps a movie down the line isn't the most unlikely possibility? That main character is a space mercenary called Mullbery, who finds himself stuck on an alien planet in the middle of a civil war and quickly decides to turn the situation to his advantage in the new four issue series.
In a press release promoting the series from publisher Boom! Studios, Jackson explained that his connection with comics goes further than playing Nick Fury in Marvel's movies:
I'm a long time comic reader and big fan of many genres in graphic novels and manga - from crime thrillers, westerns, & super-hero books, to samurai dramas, science fiction and horror. So I actually do read the stuff - and lots of it. Now's my chance to put my stamp on the medium with something new, but with a classic taste of the stuff I already like.
Cold Space launches in April.
