The government’s attempt to block the AT&T-T-Mobile merger will see its first day in court just two short weeks from now. The goal of the hearing: figure out of there’s a way to settle this all civilized like.

According to the NY Times, the feds are open to negotiation. AT&T’s willing to deal, too, reportedly prepared to give up up to 25% of T-Mo to push the merger through. And by the 21st, all involved parties “shall be prepared to discuss the prospects for settlement,” according to Judge Ellen S. Huvelle’s order. Play nice, everybody! Or don’t, and let this bad-for-consumers deal crumble into dust. That actually sounds like a much nicer alternative. [NY Times]
