Shadow Ops: Red Mercury

Atari shipped Shadow Ops: Red Mercury today for Xbox. Served up by developer Zombie Studios, the game is by all reckoning a generic one-man army FPS. Which isn’t surprising, given that Zombie’s last inspiration came from the generic one-man and one-woman army movie Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever. Zombie was making a PS2 game based on the movie, but the project was cancelled when, in an unfortunate accident, the movie totally sucked.

Atari is pitching the game as an “interactive blockbuster”, with a modern military thriller storyline involving a trans-continental hunt for a stolen nuclear device. This blockbuster is PG-13, or in videogame parlance, T for Teen, which means no blood and lots of explosions.
