Sheep take over the old Lord of the Rings set

When Peter Jackson’s production crew left Matamata, New Zealand, they left 17 hobbit holes on the private farm that was used as a stand-in for the Shire. Since then, the farm’s sheep have moved in on this hobbit ghost town.

Once production wrapped on the Lord of the Rings trilogy, the owners of Alexander Farm kept some of the Hobbiton dwellings as a tourist attraction. You can still visit, but don’t expect to run into any short and hairy bipeds. A gang of unruly quadrupeds runs the Shire now.
