File this under completely unfounded rumor, but a German site has noticed that journalists with debug Xbox 360s have gotten an update that quiets down Xbox 360 DVD drives. We’re not sure how a drive could get physically quieter, so they the firmware update probably just updates the console to load more data into cache so the drive has to run less.
If this is true, then could an update for regular Xbox 360 may be somewhere on the horizon? We know a lot of Kotaku editors have old, and therefore loud Xbox 360s, so a quieter drive will make it easier for them to hear our taunts as we curb stomp their faces in Gears of War.
