SoniColumn: Even Your Stubby Fingers Can Make Music

The SoniColumn is art we can really appreciate. The installation piece is an electronic stalk covered in LEDs and touch sensors. When someone drags their fingers across the surface, it triggers chime-like sound effects. But what’s really cool is that the column can recall the sequence of notes when a hand crank is spun, turning the tree trunk into a some sort of 21st-century music box. First person to successfully playback the soundtrack to Blade Runner wins a Gizmodo merit badge! More images, and a highly-recommended video after the jump.
