It’s been a big movie season this summer, and Labor Day weekend makes that clearer than ever.
Per Variety, Spider-Man: Brand New Day and The Odyssey both reached new milestones thanks to the holiday. In its sixth weekend, Brand New Day’s due to collect $23.3 million domestic by holiday’s end, bringing its North American total to $923 million. As such, it’s about to become the highest-grossing domestic movie ever just behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ $936 million. With its international numbers, the Marvel movie’s made $2.4 billion globally, the third-biggest release ever behind Avatar’s $2.9 billion and Avengers: Endgame’s $2.7 billion.
Meanwhile, The Odyssey looks to bring in another $17 million domestic, making for a worldwide total of $1.62 billion. Compared to Spider-Man, that’s small, but that doesn’t stop it from being 2026’s second highest-grossing film, or the highest-grossing for both director Christopher Nolan and Universal Pictures. The two Tom Holland-led movies are touted as heavy hitters alongside Toy Story 5, Backrooms, and others that’ve delivered $4.73 billion worth of domestic ticket sales. Altogether, that makes for the second-biggest summer movie season since 2013 collectively grossed $4.755 billion.
Speaking of summer movies, the more recent Coyote vs. Acme is set to earn $14.5 million by weekend’s end. Analyst Luiz Fernando highlighted the $23.5 million from international markets, meaning the film’s made $57.3 million globally. Positive word of mouth’s been a good help, ditto being more of an all-ages movie than arguably Spider-Man is. Fernando further noted it seems like it’ll have some legs, projecting to earn between $50 million-$75 million domestic and $95 million-$110 million worldwide.
Overseas, #CoyoteVsAcme kept going with its staggered rollout, adding 36 markets and grossing 9.5M on 2nd weekend, going up +13.1% from opening, reaching a 23.5M intl. cume over 66 markets.

Next weekend marks the true start of the fall movie season, beginning with Practical Magic 2 (September 10), followed by Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil (September 18) and Forgotten Island (September 25).
