Good news, fans of epically long Stephen King sagas! The hefty King series The Dark Tower will be getting the HBO treatment. This is a good thing, as HBO is really the only place with the budget and patience to take on such a long, complicated story.
HBO broke the news from producer Brian Grazer, who confirmed there will be yet another fantasy series on the channel that gave us Game of Thrones and True Blood:
"We're going to do [The Dark Tower] with HBO," Grazer told [HBO]. "We'll do the TV with HBO, and we'll do the movie with… to be determined. We'll do it right. We're going to do that movie. We've lost $45 million out of the budget, he said. When people say no to you enough, then you have to lose money, which we've done without harming the scope of the film."
So it sounds like Dark Tower had to lose money to get what they wanted. Hell, as long as the much rumored Javier Bardem is still up for the role of Roland Deschain, the mysterious Gunslinger, we're still invested.
