Steven Universe Is Finally Doing an All-Musical Episode

One of the greatest things about Steven Universea series with many great things to its name—is its catchy soundtrack, whether that’s its chiptunes-infused instrumentals or its repertoire of heartwarming songs. And one of the upcoming episodes of the season is going to be jam-packed with them.

Entertainment Weekly has lifted the lid on two of the metric butt-ton of episodes coming as part of the “Summer of Steven”—as well as confirming that the show’s run will be 20 episodes long between July 18th and August 12th, with new episodes airing every weekday in that period. The first, coming on Tuesday July 19th, is “Mr. Greg,” a musical-themed episode where Steven’s dad is suddenly filthy rich, taking his son and Pearl to live the high-life in Empire City.

The second is a little more spoiler-y, so if you want to keep the surprise to yourself, consider this your final warning to turn back.

Coming near the end of the event in August, a 22-minute special episode named “Bismuth” will introduce the titular gem, who has a surprising connection Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl. Voiced by Orange Is the New Black’s Uzo Aduba, Bismuth is a gem woken out of stasis in the modern day that fought alongside the Crystal Gems in their battle to protect Earth 5,000 years ago. In the clip below, she finds out what became of the rest of the rebellious Gems that fought in the war against the Homeworld:

Looks like this is going to be a bit of a tearjerker, if everyone’s starting to cry already in the preview. But will Bismuth, like Peridot and Lapis before her, become a new member of the team? We’ll have to wait and see—and in the meantime, devour the rest of Steven Universe’s third season when it begins in a few weeks.

Thank you for actually putting the giant spoiler under a spoiler space. I had it ruined for me by another entertainment blog that couldn’t be bothered (that’s what I get for expecting The AV Club to care about something that isn’t Game of Thrones, I guess.)

Oh well, you know what’ll cheer me up? TAPDANCING.
