When the first season of Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 arrived, it felt too soon after the main Stranger Things series had ended. Pop culture was oversaturated with all things Hawkins, which made the animated series’ self-reflexive nostalgia feel even more heavy-handed. However, now that several months have passed, we feel a bit more excited about Tales From ’85 season two, especially after watching this fun first trailer revealing supernatural shenanigans to come.
According to a Netflix press release, season two will pick up right after season one, meaning we’re still in the winter months between the live-action show’s second and third seasons. Tales From ’85 will always have some continuity issues to grapple with—sending the “Hawkins Investigator Club” on a wild adventure they never mention again, with a bestie (Odessa A’zion’s Nikki Baxter) that drops out of sight and mind long before the Starcourt Mall opens. But maybe season two’s ghost hunt will feel like a more substantial standalone than season one’s too-familiar mystery in the snow, which had an unfortunate “Why does this exist?” quality to it.
“The gang is back at it, and so are the strange creatures lurking about their seemingly quaint town,” explains Netflix’s official synopsis. “With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, mysterious ‘ghostly’ apparitions and a swarm of hate sprites are wreaking havoc around Hawkins. The HIC must uncover the truth behind these paranormal events before a new gate to the Upside Down is ripped open.”
The cast features Brooklyn Davey Norstedt as Eleven, Luca Diaz as Mike, Jolie Hoang-Rappaport as Max, Elisha “EJ” Williams as Lucas, Braxton Quinney as Dustin, Benjamin Plessala as Will, Odessa A’zion as Nikki Baxter, Brett Gipson as Hopper, Janeane Garofalo as Anna Baxter, Jeremy Jordan as Steve Harrington, Alessandra Antonelli as Nancy Wheeler, Valeria Rodriguez as Rosario, and Jack Griffo as Jeff.
