Taylor Swift (Part 1) – Midnights
Coming off the record-breaking release of her tenth studio album Midnights, Taylor Swift faced some controversy in regards to her music video for the album’s lead single “Anti-Hero.” The video features Swift hanging out with a more self-destructive version of herself, with a scene of Swift stepping on a scale as her doppelgänger gives a judging stare. This scene was edited after the video was released—the original version of the scene featured a cut to the scale, which simply read “FAT.” Screenshots of the first version were published on Twitter by Pop Crave. Despite a seemingly vocal group of people calling the original scene fatphobic, The Independent argues that it is a clear callback to Swift’s experiences with an eating disorder, which she publicly disclosed for the first time in her 2020 documentary Miss Americana.
