After a brief, goofy-as-hell tease back in December, Paramount’s Street Fighter movie came to CinemaCon with a new look at the fights to come.
Still keeping that camp vibe (right down to being set to the endlessly memeable “What’s Up?” by 4 Non Blondes), the new trailer promises clash after clash between live-action versions of the World Warriors. From Akuma to Dhalsim to Cammy and Vega, the cast is a blend of characters from the first two Street Fighter games and the Street Fighter Alpha series.
From the early ’90s setting to the cast’s fighting styles and supers, it’s clear the filmmakers want audiences to come into theaters in the hopes of seeing their childhood arcade and home console memories come to life.
But for all the trailer has, the main focus of the Kitao Sakurai-directed film is series mascots Ryu (Andrew Koji) and Ken Masters (Noah Centineo), who’ve joined the fighting tournament at the request of Chun-Li (Callina Liang). A conspiracy lies at the heart of the tournament and its leader, M. Bison (David Dastmalchian), which the two fighters will have to uncover while also beating the hell out of each other and fellow contestants.
Also starring Eric Andre, Orville Peck, and Cody Rhodes, Street Fighter will arrive to duke it out on the big screen on October 16.
