The executive producers of Fox’s show Gotham confirmed Monday that Suicide Squad characters Harley Quinn and Killer Croc are coming to the show. When and how, however, is slightly less exciting.

Apparently, Harley and Croc will show up a “proto” versions of themselves, very much like all the other villains on the show. They’ll be younger and have the characteristics of the iconic villains they eventually become, but won’t actually look like them.

“A lot of those characters, because they’re in Suicide Squad, you’re not going to be seeing them this season,” said executive producer John Stephens. “We’ll be seeing proto-versions of some of those characters. We’ll see a proto Killer Croc version. And we’ll be seeing a character, perhaps not this season but in times to come, who can be a forerunner of Harley Quinn which will be fun.”

So don’t hold your breath. But it’s in the cards.

Gotham returns for its third season in September.
