Sweeping stadium designs for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar

The World Cup has never been held in a Middle Eastern nation, but Qatar wants to change that — and to do so, they’ve retained a German architecture firm to design five stunning stadiums that’ll sweeten their host-nation bid.

Of the five stadiums that German firm Albert Speer & Partner designed for Qatar’s bid for the 2022 World Cup, three are completely new construction, while two are refits of existing structures — and all of them will be cooled using solar power.
